Mary and Annie

Annie is an 11 year-old Australian Kelpie who weighs 40 lbs. If there was a before picture, it would be of a girlie lying down who won't get up and has pain in her eyes.

Since Annie has been here several years (she started as a private foster at age 5) she was fine when she arrived. It was as she aged (and went over a 6' fence and landed wrong!) that the left hip began to cause problems. She couldn't rise from a sit or down without great pain, and she limped when she walked.

The vet diagnosed arthritis in her left hip and put her on Rimadyl (which causes its own problems) so when FluffyButts (www.FluffyButts.com) started selling CholoFlex, I bought a bottle. Within the first week of taking CholoFlex Annie was walking without a limp and rising quickly from resting positions. She was showing much more of her usual bounce! We stopped the Rimadyl in the first week and she continued to improve.

Condition of the kid now: No more arthritis pain!!! She's now back to her bouncy normal!!!

Ryan and Brynn

Ryan and Brynn

Brynn is a 12 year old, 7 pound Yorkie girl that we have had for almost one year.

When we got Brynn she was a scared, shy, and arthritis stricken shell of a dog. She is a puppy mill survivor so every time we picked her up she would get scared and stiffen up, when she did this we could hear her joints pop or crack. The first day we gave her Cholo she went down the stairs for the first time ever. Since that day we have not heard her joints crack once when we pick her up although she still tenses up. I refuse to believe this change is a coincidence. This is truly an amazing product.

Rebel

Updated information as of 6/20/05:
In mid-December Rebel was taken to the vet because he was having trouble with his right rear leg. Despite an xray and bone biopsy we were unable to pinpoint the exact cause of the inflammation and bone degeneration in his right rear femur. We were very afraid that it was bone cancer (which spreads very quickly and is very painful) so we were very relieved to at least determine that it was NOT cancer. Right now the consensus is that it may be the result of trauma to the hip area (sometime within the past couple of years) which is limiting blood supply to the bone. Unfortunately, further testing has failed to reveal a definite cause and, therefore, permanent solution, if any.

Rebel was put on a daily dose of Rimadyl to treat the inflammation and pain. We are aware of the many possible side effects and problems that have been encountered by dogs treated by Rimadyl and other NSAIDS, however, this treatment has worked very well to alleviate the pain and inflammation.

About a month ago we decided to try another treatment. We started dosing Rebel with CholoGel (see www.chologel.com for more information) twice a day while discontinuing the Rimadyl. He has been doing well with this new treatment and has only received two or three doses of Rimadyl since we began using the Chologel and these were for the times he overexerted himself running around outside during playtime. Perhaps he didn’t need the Rimadyl doses but we preferred to treat him immediately rather than wait and see if the leg began bothering him more.

Cost to provide either of these medications is definitely a factor for anyone who may consider adopting Rebel. For example, a once daily dosage of Rimadyl 50mg (we buy 100mg caplets and cut them in half) costs approximately $0.75 per day. CholoGel comes in a 100ml bottle and at this point it looks like one bottle may last approximately two months (three drops in the morning, two drops in the evening). Each bottle costs approximately $75.00-$80.00

Despite the above information, Rebel is not a stationary 7-8 year old dog. He is back to being able to dance, prance, hop up on the couch just fine and had no problem negotiating the fifteen steps to the second floor of our former house without a problem. Okay, I am embarrassed to have to admit that he usually beats ME going up the stairs. <G>

The downside to adopting Rebel? I have to admit that he has turned out to be VERY vocal much more so than when I fostered him in late 2003. The woo wooing and aroooooos are fine but the barking is a problem we’ve been working on. He does *not* bark incessantly, but I will say that on some days he appears to like the sound of his own voice!

Back in October 2003, when I saw him for the first time, he stood and walked with his head cast down without looking at anything or anyone. Now, he’s a stuffy collector/hoarder who barks and dances twice a day at mealtime, anytime the “cookie” jar is opened (apparently his hearing is excellent!), anytime he hears a squeakie toy squeak and anytime you ask if he wants to go out with you into the front yard.

So, while the barking can sometimes drive me to distraction I’ll still take that any day over the silent, joyless, dirty matted dog I first brought home.

PUPDATE JUL 9-08: Hey, there. Frazier here and I'm feeling GRRRRRREAT!!! Look at the difference in me. See that one picture? See how boney I was? Well, I'm not boney anymore! In fact, Ant Chris says I'm pawfect. I'm a good - but can be picky - eater, but I'm only picky because there's a lot of good food here to choose from. I love running - yes, RUNNING! - outside. Ant Chris says it looks like I'm taking a lap like I just won Westminster.

I feel good, I can HEAR again thanks to the Cholo Gel, and I love to take naps. I'm a very, very good nap-taker. I like to go for walks, too. That's my life. I hope someone out there is looking for a guy like me to just hang out with. There's really nothing wrong with me. I'm just a mature gentleman who stumbles occasionally but hey, I'm 15! I get along with everyone and everypuppy and sure would love to have a REAL family to love me.

JUN 2-08: Frazier is doing great! He's put on a little weight but the biggest change in him is his behavior. He still stumbles a little bit but now that he's been taking the cholo gel every day, he's jumping up and down and hollering at me when it's time to eat! He's even jumping over the 18' baby gate! That stuff is amazing!! He's a good old guy who loves wandering around outside, he's never made a mess in the house, and hopefully he can find a family who will want to love him for the rest of his life. He deserves a REAL family, not like the one who threw him out. I would love to be able to do the same thing to them - just toss them out because they're getting old.

MAY 19-08: My name is Frazier and okay, so I'm not a pawmmie boy but I got to Hotel Jordan just a day after all those hairy little critters so I'm just trying to blend in. Is it working? Here's my story and it's a sad one so grab some Kleenex. I lived with my family for all my 15 years of life and I don't know what I did, or IF I did anything, but they took me to a shelter and told the lady there to put me to sleep or let me live out my life there. Put me to sleep?!?! I didn't need a nap. Duh. And I didn't want to live the rest of my life at the shelter. Double-duh. Thank heavens the lady at the shelter was nice because otherwise I wouldn't be here at Hotel Jordan talking to you now.

The nice shelter lady, Ant Sally, sent an email telling others of my tail (get it? tail?) of woe and FluffyButts answered the call so here I am at Hotel Jordan, surrounded by a bunch of little puff balls, just trying to fit in. I'm 15, got legs up to my armpits, my face is going gray, and my legs are pretty unsteady. The manager of the hotel gave me a couple of great meals that I wolfed down and she put some stuff on it and told me that that would make my legs feel better. I think she called it CholoGel.
